I have a story for you.

After ten years working in Texas newsrooms, I left reporting to be a full time mom. I thought I was done writing professionally, until one summer day when my daughter was at camp and my infant son was napping—I was minding my own business, loading the dishwasher, when this sassy reporter in crazy stiletto heels popped into my head. Nichelle had chased a story right into trouble, and she was locked in a car trunk in downtown Richmond. I looked at the silverware caddy and said "I don't know anything about writing a book." But I didn't have anything else to do after I started the dishwasher, so I got my laptop. Today I've had more than twenty published, seen my work on major bestsellers and awards shortlists with some of my childhood heroes, and watched those babies grow taller than me. Still, the biggest thrill of this career comes from hearing that readers love my characters as much as I do.
